When referring to a person's character, it's common to put "the spirit of" in front of the name. It's not always a bad thing. It depends on the character referenced. For example, you may have heard of the spirit of Elijah.
"And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him." 2 Kings 2:15
By the way, a good or bad character can be anointed and appointed for something. Think about it, Judas was appointed to betray Jesus.
God has a purpose for everyone—even Goliath had a role in revealing God's power and divine selection. In facing Goliath, God demonstrated His might and confirmed His chosen vessel. He stood with the Israelites through David, because David was His appointed and anointed choice to lead Israel as king.
"And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah." 1 Samuel 16:12-13
The spirit of Goliath is marked by several distinct characteristics:
Intimidation
Witchcraft
Mockery
Patient to wait for your downfall
Partners with others against you
Defies God and what God has in you
Enslavement
Destiny thief
Goliath's Main Purpose
Goliath's main purpose is to challenge your faith in God. Being human, we look at the size of the situation— how impossible it seems for us to resolve. But, that's wrong. We should look at how big God is and how we can do the impossible with Him.
"And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible." Mark 10:27
The spirit of Goliath tries to break down what was built in God's grace. The Israelites weren't perfect or completely faithful but God has always been faithful. Goliath wants you to question God's faithfulness and steal your identity in Christ.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17

You may be facing a Goliath situation right now causing you to feel intimidated, defeated, and without God's protection. Don't give up. Face your Goliath the same way David did —running toward him!
David didn’t fight Goliath with strength. He fought him with faith—and with the authority of the Lord of Hosts.
Defeating Goliath takes boldness, prayer, faith, and persistence. When God has called you for something huge, you must face a Goliath. How else will you be prepared to rule?
So I'm asking you, will you be a king or a slave?
Here's the answer...

Be a KING!!!!
